Nursery and Reception learning: where playful practice fits

Early learning includes conversation, movement, pretend play, books, objects and other people. A digital game can offer one small moment of practice within that much larger day.

Numbers, sounds and mark making

Girafoufou offers quantities to count, sounds to listen to, paths to trace and puzzles to explore. You can connect each one to something physical: cups for counting, spoken words for a rhyme, a large drawing on paper for a tracing movement. The game does not assess all areas of early development.

Use school stages carefully

Nursery and Reception describe an English school context; terminology and starting ages differ across the UK. Our age guides suggest ways into the games rather than a checklist of expected attainment. Development Matters is a source of context for England, not certification or approval of Girafoufou.

PUT THE SCREEN DOWN

A discovery walk indoors

You will need: Three familiar, child-safe objects.

  1. Choose an object to describe by its shape.
  2. Find another that could go with it and explain why.
  3. Make up a tiny story using the objects. There is no single correct story.
